AfterBFT Access Control Installation: The Irvine Owner’s Guide

Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT access control parts cover three main family lines in Irvine: the Rigel series (Rigel 5, Rigel 4), the Icon series, and the older Perseus and Deimos control boards still running on plenty of Irvine driveways. Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad works intermittently, especially after rain. This is water getting past the keypad gasket or into the housing. The fix is usually a new keypad plus a fresh seal, not a board replacement. In Irvine’s marine layer season, we see this call every week.
- Remote works but keypad won’t, or vice versa. The receiver on the board is failing, or the keypad wiring run has corroded at the terminal block. It’s rarely both parts at once, which tells us exactly where to look.
- Gate opens on its own at random intervals. This is a failing receiver picking up stray signals or a shorted keypad wire. It’s also a security problem, so we treat it as a priority call. For most Irvine homeowners, this is the symptom that finally triggers the call.

DIY or Call Us?
Access control runs on low voltage, so there’s no electrocution risk, but the danger with DIY on BFT systems is real in a different way: a keypad wired backwards can short the control board and turn a $400 keypad swap into a $900 board replacement.
